Vintage Halloween Tags & Bow Tutorial

Hello everyone! I cannot believe it’s already September. Before you know it, the Holidays will creep up on us. I was at work yesterday and I saw that the company is sending the first part of our Holiday collection at the end of this month. Eeek!

Today’s project was planned during the week I guest designed on Everyday Cricut. I wanted to revisit the tags I made, and change them up a bit.

DSCF0319

Yes, I finally made another video! And, one thing I discovered when I was editing is that I’m not as uncomfortable as I thought. I’m trying to branch out and grow, so I know that one of the next steps for me is sharing more of my creative process.

I did not film the entire process of making these because the video would have been way too long. So, I wanted to mention that for these tags, I backed the window with vellum that I stamped and embossed a pattern on . Then I basically adhered the card so that it simply became a tag.

Before I leave, I wanted to let you all know about something new that the MCT team is doing every Tuesday. We’re showcasing different techniques. So, please stop by My Creative Time today to hop along.

As always, I thank you all for stopping by. I wish you a very blessed day!

Tag, You’re It!

Hey there! Glad you came by today. I have a really quick little tag card to share with you all. Super easy and super simple. And it’s using a cartridge that I know most of us have, an oldie, but a goodie, Tag, Bags, Boxes & More.

I know what you’re thinking, he brought back the glitter. Why yes, I did. I just can’t help it.

I intended to only make tags today. But, I saw this gem on the TBBM cartridge and I was like, “OMG window card!” You have to say it like you’re from Valley – like on Saved By the Bell. I’m a child of the 90’s, don’t judge.

Once again, I have the Gypsy file. If you want it email me. Now, down to business!

This one is pretty straightforward. I found the candy cane cut on the Gingerbread Seasonal Cartridge. I used Pure Poppy, and Stamper’s Select White. Normally, I use good ole Georgia Pacific because it’s umm, affordable. But I knew I was going to cover that layer with glitter, so I used something more sturdy.

Okay, so, between me and y’all, I cheated on Martha. Yeah, I used Doodlebug Lilywhite Sugarcoating on my candy canes today. I feel terrible, that counts, doesn’t it?

Because the card front has a window, I didn’t want any adhesive to show. So, I had to size it just right. After I cut them, I used Background Basics: Houndstooth to stamp on them. I’m an Alabama boy, what can I say? No seriously, I like the pattern, that’s all. I used Lucky Limeade and Real Red. Full disclosure, I had to lay the card flat and mask the back with Post-It Notes when I was stamping. After that, I cut my clear cardstock (Save your acetate!) to cover the window, and I adhered it with my Tombo Mono Multi. I used my Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole through the top of the card, and I set eyelets on the front and the inside.

The only tricky part was positioning the foam adhesive so that it wouldn’t show on the inside. Does it matter? Probably not, but I’m OCD, so I just have to have it a certain way. For this I used red line dimensionals from Jody, they’re super strong. I used them because I knew I was going to tie bows around the candy canes. For those, I used some saddle stitch ribbon from Hob Lob.

Last thing, a little Caribbean twine from The Twinery, and a sentiment on the inside. For that, I used another new My Creative Time set, Warm Holiday Fun.

Okay, that is all for me today, but I have a really special project for tomorrow! I cannot wait to show you all. Thanks for stopping by, have a blessed day!

Bon Voyage–MCT June Sneak Peek

Hey there! I have a super special project to share with you all for the June My Creative Time Release. So, I am going to get right to it!

DSCF0128

DSCF0130

DSCF0129

I made a mini album using the tag dies! I went on a trip to Michigan during May, and snapped a lot of photos using Instagram that I plan on printing out and putting to use.

So, as you can see, I decided to color the hot air balloon from Fly Away With Me. Here is the thing, I am not a alcohol marker expert by any means. I just worked with what I had (Prismacolor and BIC Markers.) until I was satisfied. I don’t even have the right cardstock! Nevertheless, I am more than thrilled with the result.

I was going to show all of the individual pages and what not, but I’m holding off for a bit – but it will be up, I promise.

For those that want to understand the color palette and everything. I based everything on the papers from the My Mind’s Eye Follow Your Heart, “Be Happy,” collection. I supplemented that with some paper from the Recollections Pastel cardstock pack. The solid cardstock I used is all Papertrey – Kraft, Aqua Mist, Melon Berry, and Sweet Blush.

The title or the sentiment that I used as my title, is from Fly Away With Me Sentiments.

My felt addiction continues – I used the coordinating die to cut out some clouds. It’s all about texture, right? And I couldn’t resist a bow. I used some Orange Zest Saddle Stitch for that.

Happy Birthday Sweetie!-MCT Day 4

Welcome crafty peeps! We’re on day 4 and it’s celebration day! We’re all showcasing Celebrate Good Times. And, guess what, I made something other than a card for my project.

I decided to make a treat bag. I was thinking that this could go into a child’s lunch box. I think it could be a great little surprise. I filled mine with a few Starburst, but you could put whatever your kid likes.

The bag is a 2.5” x 4” Canvas Corp bag that I picked up from Hobby Lobby. I cut a strip of this stripped paper from the My Mind’s Eye  Miss Caroline Howdy Doody pad and punched it with my Fiskars Scallop Sentiment punch. I trimmed it to a little over a fourth of an inch and adhered it to the bottom and top of the bag with some Tombo Mono Multi glue.

I diecut a tag from Kraft cardstock and I stamped it with the plaid background from Coffee Backgrounds using Versamark ink. I stamped my sentiment from Celebrate Good Times with Early Espresso. I tied double bows with some Aqua Mist twill.

To decorate my bag, I diecut the ice cream cone from Kraft, Vintage Cream, and Sweet Blush cardstock. Before I adhered the pink scoop the the cream, I use my Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole through the top so I could thread my twine on it. The twine is from Martha Stewart. I love smaller twine for things like this, so I actually bought some from Liz’s Boutique on Sunday. She ships for free and I received my order today (Wednesday). Anyway, I wrapped it around the bag a few times and tied a simple bow.

I think it’s super cute, and these could also be used as party favors.

This wouldn't be a party w/o GIVEAWAYS!

You’re Still My Sunshine!–MCT Release Day 3

Howdy, howdy creative peeps! We’re on day three of release week. Today we’re all showcasing, Fun Pockets, and, I’m back to what my sister refers to as, “pomp and circumstance.” Also known as layers and bows. God bless that girl.

DSCF0072

DSCF0073

My affair with clean & simple was lovely and all, but I hope y’all know it was never meant to last. Requires a lot of thinking!

Anyway, so my card today is a bit different, I will totally admit it, but this is what I was feeling so I went with it. It sort of evolved into what you see here. I started off by stamping the sun image from the set with my Jenni Bowlin Fountain Pen ink. I inked around the eyes because honestly, they scare me. I then colored the sun with my Prismacolor markers. I used a combination of yellows, red, and orange, but for those that have Copics, I think the YR family would be the way to go.

Since it’s Spring, I decided that I would make my denim, “white,” but with my inking we’ll just say they’re off white, lol. I used my Imagine to print out two patterns from the Hopscotch Pattern cartridge. I died cut the scalloped tag from the cloud paper and I backed it with another tag cut from Vintage Cream. I adhered them and, did a bit of inking with Antique Linen Distress ink.

That’s all I can explain, the rest just kind of came together and did a few things to make what I was doing make more sense to me. I wanted to use the green seam binding that I got from the wonderful Liz. (You can shop her store here: Liz's Paper Loft Boutique.) The only thing I did add for design purposes was the pinking sheared orange cardstock strip because I felt like I needed a bit of balance – you know, the visual triangle stuff.

Oh, and I think my bow looks like a butterfly. :)

MCT 12 Days of Christmas ~ Day #9

Hey there! If you arrived here from Tracy’s blog, you’re on the right track. If not, start at Emma’s blog here: My Creative Time.

For my project today, I decided to work on another tag design. I decided to incorporate the design of the card I did for the first day into my tag. The colors really match our Christmas decorations and since I already had the paper printed I figured why not.

I sized the tag using my Gypsy. It’s cut from Kraft cardstock and I stamped the background with my Background Basics: Houndstooth stamp in VersaMark Dazzle. I then embossed with with clear embossing powder. The papers are from Mr. Frosty. I used the holly pattern to make a rosette and I used the pink snowflake pattern as my layer. The rosette was made with two 1.25” x 8” strips of paper and I scored ever 1/4.” I used my Curly Label die and felt the make a medallion for the rosette. My sentiment is from Gift Card Sentiments. It’s stamped on ivory cardstock from the Paper Company.

I used my polka dot background stamp and Melon Mambo ink to add dots to the background of my patterned layer. The green scallops were cut from Colorbox cardstock that I got from Wal-Mart. I got another Fiskars Scallop Sentiment punch. I cannot live without a scalloped border punch!! I tied some twine around bottom of the card and a bow around the top.

Before I adhered the rosette to the front of the tag, I used the to and from stamps and Melon Mambo ink, to stamp the back of the tag. These are going to go on a few select gifts as I don’t think I can handle making that many rosettes!

MCT 12 Days of Christmas ~ Day #5

Hey there! If you arrived here from Tracy’s amazing blog, you’re on the right track. If not, start at Emma’s blog here: My Creative Time.

For my project today, I decided to do a tag. Something very new to me, but I’m very pleased with the result.

DSCF7601

DSCF7603

My tag was cut from Plantin Schoolbook and I sized it to 6” with my Gypsy. I used my Gypsy to hide the hole that cuts out because it would have been too large. The base of my tag is Paper Studio Ivory cardstock. I LOVE their ivory, but I wish it were thicker. I used my Background Basics:Houndstooth stamp from Papertrey Ink and Real Red ink from Stampin’ Up to stamp the background. And then I distressed the edges with Jenni Bowlin Malted Milk, AND Vintage Photo Distress ink.

The poinsettia was cut with the Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia die set. So, so in love with this. I’m pretty sure that it will be seen again. It’s kind of hard to find, but It was well worth it. Poinsettias are the quintessential Christmas flower, so you could use it every year.

I used my Curly Label Die and the sentiment, “Jingle Bell Rock!”, from Mixed Holiday Sentiments. I love this set. I think it’s a must have. I haven’t even used all of the Christmas/winter sentiments yet. I try my best to not repeat sentiments. But that may just be me. I inked my stamp with VersaMark Dazzle and use gold Zing embossing powder from American Crafts. Added some cheap, and I mean CHEAP, green rhinestones to finish it off. I wanted to, “frame,” the sentiment, so I took some dark green grosgrain and pleated it. And I used my sewing machine with brown thread to finish it off. Totally not necessarily, but I’m just trying new things!
